WAYS OF WORKING: Working methods
With Ways of Seeing, we offer different working methods:
Focus Dramaturgy
In every artistic process, an extra pair of eyes is useful at some point. Even if you already
work with a dramaturge, it can be enlightening to spar with someone who can offer new
perspectives. That is what we offer with focus dramaturgy: a short-term exchange about your
project, which can be inserted at any moment in a creation process.
In a Focus Dramaturgy session, you receive artistic support from two seasoned theatre
professionals. Together, we look at your directorial concept or interim run-through, and give
you detailed feedback so you can continue working with a fresh perspective. By default, both
of us join the conversation because our perspectives are complementary and offer different
ways of seeing - but in special cases you can also choose one of the two dramaturges.
Standby Dramaturgy
If you do not work with a regular dramaturge yourself and you feel the need to occasionally ask a question or spar with us after the Focus Dramaturgy session(s), we offer Standby Dramaturgy. This means that we are available by phone, via Zoom or by e-mail to give advice about questions that have come up in the artistic process. We agree on a certain number of hours in advance, and let you know if we go over the limit.
Mock reviews
In the video game industry, it is standard practice for large companies to let freelance writers produce ‘mock reviews’: a review of the work that serves to give you an idea of how the press will react to it, and that reveals salient qualities or weaknesses of the work. Of course, we will not just send you a text, but will meet up with you following the completion of the text to answer your questions.
Specialised Dramaturgy
From time to time, it can be useful to look at an element of your work separately, and trace the dramaturgical line of that one part. This can apply to the script, the stage design, the sound design or the direction - all these different parts of the work have their own logic. One of the two dramaturgists, depending on who is most specialised in the area of the chosen element, will do a comprehensive analysis with you.
